Imagine every day at school… All the posters are of white kids… Imagine seeing your ancestor beaten and bloody in history class… Imagine having your kids ripped away from you, never to been seen again… Imagine all of the people… Imagine your history being restricted to February… Imagine struggling to get a job… (the government spent became bloated to do so – affirmative action, desegregation, voting rights, property rights, the rights to be human!)
Yes, all of these things happened years ago, but they are brought up every day in books and on the internet. The wound hasn’t had time to heal. Exacerbating the problem is the anger seen regarding the kneeling, the anger you see online, the names called out on Facebook. When you receive the rejection letter from the job you had applied to – well, now, its hard to figure out why. You thought you nailed it – but you’re black…
See how easy it is to come to that conclusion? And if you don’t, that’s not fine with me, so we’ll have to end the discussion because this country was built on protests (Remember the Boston Tea Party? In order for a protest to be successful, they have disrupted the supply chain. That’s just the way it is.)
Here’s my cheap and easy solution: move the protests! The football players have successfully captured the nation’s attention. Now it’s time to get back to work! Move the protest to Saturday – but continue to fight for equality. Play football on Sunday – get back to “Sunday Funday”.
Now we need a celebrity endorser to get on TV to spread the word because it needs to change before Super Bowl Sunday. Tom Brady? Nope! Ben? No! Peyton and Eli Manning? That’s it!
Can we go back to drinking our faces off in the muni lot Sunday? Can’t we all just get along?
Why do these ideas have to be mutually exclusive? Can’t we complain about government overreach and racism at the same time? Can’t we have protests for both? (that’s what I’m not getting.) That is how to fight the power: protest! Free speech will never be silenced entirely – but we have to respect that it can; we have to believe that racism will end – but we know it won’t. Live and let live. Can’t we say that religion controls too much, while being baffled by atheists? We can do all that and more. The protests need a Thought Leader and we could have done all these things!
LeBron James would be perfect! Remember when he wore the I can’t Breathe t-shirts? The right Thought Leader will have the fans protesting in their seats, during the game. There – we both win!
Have I ever told you about the time I bought a car that only lasted two miles? Or when I hit a tree…? It is so funny…
